What is ReImagine?
ReImagine: New Plays in TYA aims to support the development and visibility of new works for young audiences by playwrights of color. This project will provide funding directly to the playwright, as well as funds to be utilized for development work with a host theatre.
The ReImagine Advisory Council acknowledges the systems by which the TYA field has historically developed new work using processes that can create barriers for playwrights of color — in funding, in access, in respect, in artistry, and in how theatres honor playwrights' voices. This effort is a first step to create a new path for development, one that centers and gives playwrights agency when working with a theatre and in the field. We seek to highlight and celebrate the voices, aesthetics, and creative processes of playwrights of color by making intentional space for new stories to be heard. We want to support the stories that are urgent and inspiring and fantastical and joyful and devastating and searching and burning to be told by BIPOC playwrights.
